Weight Distribution Capacity (WD):
The weight distribution capacity is the maximum amount of weight a trailer hitch can safely tow with a weight distribution hitch installed. A weight distribution hitch is a device used with a receiver hitch to support or distribute a portion of the trailers tongue weight across the vehicle and trailer axles.
Safety Cables & Chains:
Safety cables and chain or safety cables are required by law for towing. A safety chain is a length of chain strong enough to restrain the trailer from complete separation if the hitch or coupler should fail. For any trailer, 2 safety chains should always be used and should always be connected to cross under the coupler so the nose of the trailer may be caught by the safety chains, providing a measure of control while the tow vehicle stops. Safety chains should never be allowed to drag on the ground and should only be attached to designated safety chain loops on the trailer. Each safety chain or safety cable must be rated to meet or exceed the GTW.
